What are the signs of a bad AC capacitor?

Your air conditioner capacitor is the device that provides your unit with the initial power boost it needs to cycle on. It also supplies power to the AC that allows the unit to complete a cooling cycle. Some signs that your capacitor may not be working include:

  • The air conditioner will either not turn on or take a while to start after you turn it on.
  • The unit is not blowing cold air.
  • There is a humming noise coming from the AC.
  • The unit keeps shutting down.

Do you suspect a bad AC capacitor? Garner Heating & Air Conditioning can help! We provide accurate and reliable AC repair services at competitive prices. Contact us today to learn more!

How long do AC units last?

On average, you can expect your AC unit to last between 10 - 15 years. To prolong the life of your unit, make sure to:

  • Have it serviced regularly - Maintenance service has been shown to not only help central air conditioning systems last longer, but also run more efficiently and ward off future breakdowns.
  • Run it reasonably - Our Texas summers can be brutal. However, if the temperature hits over a hundred degrees outside, trying to cool your home to 60 degrees will put undue stress on the unit and shorten its working life.
  • Change filters on time - Changing the air filters in your home helps your AC run more smoothly by allowing air to circulate easier. New air filters also collect more dust and dirt that will prevent extra debris from getting into the system.

To learn more, contact the experts at Garner Heating & Air Conditioning today! We offer professional AC installation services guaranteed to keep you and your family cool for years to come.

How much does it cost to replace an AC capacitor?

On average, the repair cost to replace an AC capacitor runs around $300 - $400 for a professional technician to complete. You can expect the job to take between 1 - 2 hours.

For a more accurate estimate, Garner Heating & Air Conditioning can help! We offer “Peace Of Mind” pricing, which means we provide the price before doing the repair and never add an additional charge on top of it. Contact us today to learn more!

How much does a new AC system cost in Driftwood?

Having a new air conditioning system installed in Driftwood can cost anywhere from $7,000-$15,000, with most people paying an average of $10,000. Some of the factors that can influence the cost of installation include the labor costs, the size of your home and the size, brand and type of air conditioner you want installed.

Garner Heating & Air Conditioning offers the best AC services in Driftwood. To have a new AC system installed in your home, give us a call today!

How often should my HVAC system be serviced?

Along with improving your system’s efficiency and helping your units to last longer, regular HVAC maintenance can find any problems your heating and cooling systems may be having and can help to prevent future problems from occurring. HVAC systems need to be serviced once a year. Typically, it’s ideal to have your AC serviced in the Spring and your heater serviced in the Fall. This way, you can rest assured that your HVAC systems will last you through the months you’ll use them the most.

To get on our HVAC maintenance plan, give Garner Heating & Air Conditioning a call today!

When should I consider replacing my HVAC system?

HVAC systems typically last around 15-20 years before they’ll need to be replaced, but you can help to extend their useful life by having them properly maintained. However, they may need to be replaced sooner if they break down frequently or lose efficiency. Some common signs you may need to have your HVAC systems replaced soon include:

  • Higher energy bills.
  • The cost to have your HVAC unit repaired is more than half the cost of a new unit.
  • Uneven temperatures in your home.
  • Loud noises coming from the unit.
  • Unpleasant odors coming from your HVAC system.

Give Garner Heating & Air Conditioning a call for dependable HVAC replacement services today!

Performed diagnostic on the system and found that the primary drain line has clogged. This tripped the water safety switch and shut off the outdoor unit. I also found that the outdoor condenser fan motor is showing signs of overheating. I presented my findings to the homeowner, and she chose to have the drain cleared today only. I cleared the drain line and tested it with two gallons of water. I also taped down some insulation on the air handler panel. I wiped down the system and glued the secondary drain back together since it had come apart. I ran the system for 15 minutes and it is now draining properly. System operational.

The condenser fan motor and contactor are both in good condition. The capacitor for the condenser unit is within value. The refrigerant charge is within factory specifications. The condenser coil was cleaned. Options for repair were presented to the customer, and Shea chose to have the blower motor capacitor replaced. Spoke with homeowner and he stated that the temp inside the house got up to 85°. He could feel air blowing out of the supply registers, but it was not cool air, simply just circulating air inside the home. I went to the outdoor unit and found nothing running. I then went into the attic and found that the primary drain line was clogged up tripping the emergency water safety switch shutting down control voltage to the outdoor heat pump. I cleaned and cleared the primary line. I then flushed the line out with a gallon of water to ensure proper drainage and slope of the drain line to the exterior penetration next to the heat pump unit. I also added in a drain treatment into the piping to help with condensate drainage. Reset the AC system and verified everything was operating within manufacture’s specifications for operation.
