Your air conditioner capacitor is the device that provides your unit with the initial power boost it needs to cycle on. It also supplies power to the AC that allows the unit to complete a cooling cycle. Some signs that your capacitor may not be working include:
- The air conditioner will either not turn on or take a while to start after you turn it on.
- The unit is not blowing cold air.
- There is a humming noise coming from the AC.
- The unit keeps shutting down.
Do you suspect a bad AC capacitor? Garner Heating & Air Conditioning can help! We provide accurate and reliable AC repair services at competitive prices. Contact us today to learn more!
On average, you can expect your AC unit to last between 10 - 15 years. To prolong the life of your unit, make sure to:
- Have it serviced regularly - Maintenance service has been shown to not only help central air conditioning systems last longer, but also run more efficiently and ward off future breakdowns.
- Run it reasonably - Our Texas summers can be brutal. However, if the temperature hits over a hundred degrees outside, trying to cool your home to 60 degrees will put undue stress on the unit and shorten its working life.
- Change filters on time - Changing the air filters in your home helps your AC run more smoothly by allowing air to circulate easier. New air filters also collect more dust and dirt that will prevent extra debris from getting into the system.
To learn more, contact the experts at Garner Heating & Air Conditioning today! We offer professional AC installation services guaranteed to keep you and your family cool for years to come.
On average, the repair cost to replace an AC capacitor runs around $300 - $400 for a professional technician to complete. You can expect the job to take between 1 - 2 hours.
For a more accurate estimate, Garner Heating & Air Conditioning can help! We offer “Peace Of Mind” pricing, which means we provide the price before doing the repair and never add an additional charge on top of it. Contact us today to learn more!

Spoke with the homeowner when I arrived, she said they came back to the house and found that the main house area was extremely warm, but the master bedroom system was still operational. She mentioned her husband checked the breakers, said they only found that the oven breaker was tripped and everything was still on and operational. I went through the system and found that the outdoor relay had burned up on the control coil, the run capacitor for the compressor had failed below value and the furnace transformer was no longer stepping down high voltage to low voltage to power on the control board. Spoke with the homeowner and let her know that these issues will need to be fixed first before I can determine if there were any other faults in the system. She agreed to the immediate repairs. I completed the repairs for the system and installed new contactor relay, new run capacitor and new transformer. Installed a surge protection device on the main house furnace. Cycled power to sy

Spoke with homeowner, he mentioned that the system upstairs was no longer blowing cool air, just recirculating the air already up there. I turned on the system and checked the outdoor condensing unit. I found there was no control voltage at the contactor relay. I was able to narrow down the issue to the high pressure switch being tripped. I reset the switch and the compressor kicked on but the condenser fan motor was not running. I tested and verified that the outdoor run capacitor was still within range across the FAN terminals. I gave the fan blade a push and found it was stuck. I was able to forcefully spin it to get it going and I checked refrigerant charge. Did find refrigerant levels to be extremely low on the system, running with a 1°SC. The fan motor bearings have failed as the blade takes an extreme force to rotate. I presented repair options to homeowner and he chose to replace the condenser fan motor today. Installed new condenser fan motor. Tested the system and

Performed semiannual maintenance on two gas furnace heating systems. Inspected all Performance, Mechanical and Safety systems. I did note while onsite that the inlet fuel pressure to both furnaces was under the minimum requirements. I raised the inlet pressure up and was able to properly adjust the gas manifold pressure of the furnaces to 11inWC to ensure 100% heating capacity. I also changed out both AprilAire filters (213 & 413) at the furnaces, as the main house area furnace filter was becoming dark in color and dirty which was beginning to cause an airflow restriction. Ensured both furnaces were powered back on cycled power prior to leaving. Everything is working at this time.
