How do I choose an HVAC contractor in San Marcos TX?

Here are the top considerations when choosing a heating and cooling company:

  1. They offer the best solutions for your problem. No matter what problem you are having with your air conditioning system they need to have the best and most efficient solution. They should first listen to your needs and explain how they are going to fix it.
  2. Expertise and Trust: your HVAC system is probably one of the most costly items in your home and you don’t buy one every day. See what your San Marcos neighbors are saying about our 5 Star Services over the last 3 decades.
  3. Free Estimates - they should offer a free estimate on the services that they will be performing. At a minimum, if they do charge a fee to come out, it should be included in the service if you decide to hire them.
  4. Licensing - they need to be a licensed professional. The vast majority of HVAC pros are licensed but just check and make sure before hiring them.
  5. How involved are they in your local community? We’re glad for the opportunity to give back to Hays County for 3 decades. Check out our yearly Gift of Heat community service.

When I tried to turn on the heat strips, I found that the wire at the thermostat for w2 and the wire at the air handler were not the same which was causing the heat strips not to turn on. On arrival, I spoke with the homeowner who said his heat pump outside was not running and the air coming out of the vents was in the 50s per his laser thermometer. I performed diagnostics and found that the heat kit relay has failed and would not allow one leg of high voltage power to pass through. I installed a new relay switch and tested the heating kit. Verified both heating strips turned on and operated as designed. I also confirmed the defrost cycle is working on the heat pump coil and tested the heat pump system. Verified everything was operating within manufacture’s specifications for operation. Everything is working at this time.

During my evaluation over the system, I discovered the following: there is no separate transformer for the zone board, there is only one float switch, the blower capacitor is weak, the igniter is showing signs of wear and pitting, the blower wheel is dirty, and the inducer bearings are starting to go. The homeowner elected to get all the work done so she doesn’t have to worry about it for this Winter. I tested the new float switch and fired the furnace up with the new inducer. Everything ran properly. I also added another transformer for the zone control board. I replaced the igniter and fired up the system. The furnace came on and ran with no issues. System is in working order at completion of appointment.

Performed semiannual maintenance on one gas furnace heating system. Inspected all Performance, Mechanical and Safety Systems. Did adjust the fuel pressure as I found it to be running outside normal operation parameters. I also inspected and verified that the zone system dampers were all operating as designed. The homeowner did mention that the dryer vent might need cleaning as he said he hasn’t seen any lint in the backyard lately. While I was performing the maintenance, I found that the flexible dryer vent line came disconnected from the single wall pipe in the attic. Reconnected and secured both pipes together to ensure a proper fit. Turned on the dryer and found that the dryer vent cover flapper was opening and closing as designed.
